Old Acquaintances and Bury St Edmunds
Reconnecting with Old Friends
This website has helped many people find old acquaintances and remember past memories that may have been forgotten otherwise.
Lunch at The Dog and Partridge
A visitor came to Bury St Edmunds in the rain to see where a person grew up and have lunch with family at The Dog and Partridge. The American visitor didn’t believe the story about the pub being connected to the brewery across the street.
Parking and Abbey Gardens
After lunch, the rain stopped, and they found easy parking near Angel Hill. They visited the beautiful Abbey Gardens (sometimes called “Park”) and showed their visitor the U.S. Air Force memorials, the Magna Carta plaque, and the graves of the Abbots.
Changes in the Gardens
They noticed some changes, like the smaller aviary and no more bowling green. They wondered if you can still buy ice cream there and if there are any elderly bowlers left in Bury.
Visiting the Cathedral
Next, they went to the West Front of the abbey and the Cathedral, where the person used to be a choirboy. They talked to a guide and another person, who mentioned knowing the Collard family from the past. The visitor bought some bricks to help build a Lego model of the Cathedral.
More Friends on Facebook
Joining this site has increased the number of Facebook friends for many people. The challenge is recognizing old acquaintances after many years, especially since people change over time. Ladies, it would be helpful to share your maiden name, so old friends can find you more easily.
Thank You
This website has helped people reconnect with old friends and memories, and it’s all thanks to James and his team for their hard work.
