The Patrick Church Interview
Patrick Church is one of those people that everyone in Bury St Edmunds knows. Having been the Manager of the Cinema in Hatter Street for over 50 years, Pat has had a book published.
The book is entitled The Smallest Show On Earth and is already receiving a great welcome to the townsfolk of Bury.
As the book was launched, I had already made an arrangement to interview Pat, as he had won the “We Love Bury St Edmunds!” Lifetime Achievement Award, the Antique Bronze at the 1st anniversary of the Facebook Group on 18th December.
I have known Pat for nearly 40 years, my Dad knew him, as they were both working in Cinemas during the 1960s, Pat in Hatter Street, and my Dad, Leslie Sheen, at the Odeon.
A number of years later, while I was in the sixth form at the County Upper School, I joined a number of my friends who were working as Ushers when it was called Studios One & Two.
Of course, time moved on, and I left Bury, but soon picked up with people I knew before, and this interview is the result of catching up with Pat.
If you would like a copy of Pats book, pop along to Number 4 Hatter Street.
Thank you to my great friends at Punch Films UK. who filmed and edited this so beautifully for me, I hope you like the result, Pat. I know Gerry and Stuart will be very proud
