Rik Barwick Design and Creativity

Combining Traditional Design Theory with Modern Practices

Introduction Rik Barwick, a Bury St Edmunds artist, has been passionate about design and creativity since his childhood days. He studied Graphic Design at West Suffolk College and The Surrey Institute of Art & Design, which provided him with a solid foundation in design theory. Over time, he has honed his skills and gained confidence in calling himself an artist as well as a designer. Today, Rik Barwick designs brands, websites, and everything in-between for clients of all shapes and sizes. In this article, we will explore his journey and how he combines traditional design theory with modern practices.

Childhood Passion for Design

Childhood Passion for Design As a child, Rik Barwick found himself spending hours cutting, sticking, and experimenting with type for school projects. Although he did not realize it at the time, this was the early foundation for his life’s work. His weird passion for design as a kid has now turned into a full-blown career.

Education and Early Career

Education and Early Career After high school, Rik Barwick studied Graphic Design at West Suffolk College and later at The Surrey Institute of Art & Design, where he fell in love with combining traditional design theory with modern practices. This provided him with a solid foundation in design theory and an opportunity to refine his skills.

Transition into Art

Transition into Art Over the years, Rik Barwick has grown in confidence in calling himself an artist as well as a designer. During lockdown, he started selling original work from his home studio in Hartest, Suffolk, and discovered a new passion for relief printing. Printmaking sits between design and fine art, and he finds it to be a great place to be. Every print is unique and holds its beauty, creating a sense of anticipation every time he reveals a print from his press.
