Rik Barwick Design and Creativity
When I was a kid the best part of any school project was the cover. I’d pour hours into cutting, sticking and experimenting with type. I didn’t know it at the time but the weird passion I had as a kid was the early foundations for what would become part of my life’s work.
I studied Graphic Design at West Suffolk College and then at The Surrey Institute of Art & Design (Now The UCA, Epsom). I fell in love in combining traditional design theory with modern practices.
Over lockdown I grew in confidence in calling myself an artist as well as a designer. I have started selling original work from my home studio in Hartest, Suffolk. There’s something about the relief printing process that appeals to the weird kid in me again. Printmaking sits between design and fine art which is a great place to be. Every print is different and holds its own beauty so there’s a real sense of anticipation every time I reveal a print from my press. It’s very addictive!
Now I design brands, websites and everything in-between for clients of all shapes and sizes and I’m now on a mission to bring more art into my work.
I have been working as a designer for 20 years but I’ve been creative since I was 3 years old.
